Nutrition Advice
- Keep a food and mood diary
Be completely honest with yourselves and write down everything you eat and drink in 1 week, once in black and white you may realise you are eating more than you thought.
- Eat properly
Lots of people think that skipping meals will help them lose weight, this is untrue. Your body needs certain amounts of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and salts, the amount may vary depending on fitness goals, but your body does need these, so should not be cut out completely. Skipping meals will only make your body store the fat that is already present. You should ideally be eating every 3-5 hours.
- Drinking
Most people do not drink enough water, you should aim to drink at least 2 litres every day.
Alcohol can be consumed in moderation, but if trying to lose weight you need to watch the calories in alcohol. Alcohol does not provide any vitamins, minerals or fibre.
- Fruit & Vegetables
Everybody should be aiming to eat at least 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables for your general health.
- Portion Control
Always be conscious of portion sizes. Lots of people feel they have to eat until they feel “stuffed” this is not the case, it takes approximately 20 minutes for your stomach to tell the brain that it is full.
- Fad Diets
Do not listen to every diet you hear of, if you want to follow a diet check the person’s credentials, don’t follow a diet just because a certain celebrity has, make sure the author is a qualified nutritionist. |
